I haven't tent camped for 15 years but am hoping to go with my daughter and granddaughter. Being a lady of a certain age I tend to get up at night for a toilet trip and would prefer not to go to the facilities. I've heard of the shewee but that doesn't appeal. Has anything else come onto the market that I could try?
A Shewee will enable a lady to pee like a gent standing up or into bottle.
I thought about getting one for long car journey in case of being stuck in traffic for a long time. However, I wear trousers/shorts nearly all the time, and it would not be very practical for me to use while being stuck in the driving seat (not going to paint the picture, sorry).
I bought a Kampa Khazi and used it for No. 2s with a bin liner and some kitty litter instead when I was a tenter, as I too did not fancy the walk in the middle of the night to the facilities block, especially when the weather was foul.

As others say (& plenty of threads): a bucket, black bin liner, cat litter, added comfort if you add a foam tube to the top of the bucket.
But TBH, just get a glamorous oncie & sandals or slippers & go to the site loo. Surely better than being overheard by fellow tenters doing what has to be done. A fabulous smile for anyone else that’s out & about.
I tried something similar to a shewee on long (all day) walks. While it worked there was always the possibility of misalignment which would not be good in a tent. For camping I use a Kampa Khazi at night, the shape makes it more stable than a bucket.
Dear God, my Google search history is going to put profile researchers into therapy for sure!
Got to be said, a 'number' of ladies (that may be a questionable social status in hindsight! ) of my acquaintance are of Mrs Bonces practical solution approach. Behind a large enough tent and away from the EHU Bollard light, and at night, who's going to see (Do watch out for CCTV cameras which can see in the dark though, or you may just end up on YouTube in the 'Adult only' section! ). May even call for a discrete wind break to be erected!
If more coy, then when it comes to 'devices', then it's mostly variations of a Shewee it seems, but ONE alternative stands out - Google "disposable urine bags for travel"!
TBH, to avoid treks, or night-time 'wildlife' adventures, I bought a Porta-Potti for my tent camping! Maybe too extravagant for a one off trip, but a number of 'bucket, bin-bag and cat litter variations' around at more modest cost, the Kampa Khazi does appear to be one of the superior ones, or you could even improvise one, but tales of how you fell off the bucket and exactly how the 'strange' stains got on the inside of tent roof may be more embarrassing than being spotted sneaking behind the tent!!!
I don't think going behind the tent is for me, I'd end up in the bush and anything along the lines of the shewee will probably leave a mess. I didn't think about possible noise in the tent at night but I wonder if it's any worse than zips.
We might have room for the Kamps Khazi, I'll check with my daughter what space she'll have in the car.
My wife has used one while out walking in the wilds, she says it is better than squatting down in rough vegetation and worrying that people may disturb her, she carries one with in the car and in her rucksack
