Good morning, we are looking to buy an awning for our small Bailey Orion 400/2.
I believe hat we only have the option of a two metre awning . Slightly larger 220 lengths seem to give us more choice but would I believe partly cover one window. Apart from the obvious of not being able to use that window would this matter? I’m wondering if the optional poles to hold awning to van would mean we would run into problems f fitting this over a window.
Also recommendations of smaller awnings would be welcome.
You need to remember that anything up against the window, even in a slight breeze, is going to move ending up with rub marks on your window.

Having an awning cross a window is far from uncommon, especially perhaps for smaller vans where there is simply not enough length to position any other way.
It's not a problem, but a few compromises.
1) the window cannot be opened (well, maybe to the vent position is OK).
2) the awning may impact how much light comes in the window if awning substantially covers it.
3) risk of awning wall scuffing window and leaving marks, but minimised by cleaning window and awning wall of dirt before erecting in place (never been a problem on my van after years of doing so).
4) gaps in draft 'seal' between awning wall and caravan where window pushes the seal clear. It's minor and awnings have 'drafts' coming from multiple other places, so a petty gripe! The 'seal' is generally not great anyway against even a flat wall, and wind will find it's way in!
The poles fit OK, usually pressing against a padded foam cushion anyway, that adapts to some extent to ensure the effect of the window is minimised.
If you buy a Kampa/Dometic awning you can utilise their suction cup 'Limpet' system (you may need to add extra holes in wall skirt) to 'contour' the fit of the awning wall around the window, some other brands of awning MAY be able to utilise the Limpet pads if a suitable skirt, but likely you'd have to make your own fixing holes.
I've got a hefty Kampa 3.3m air awning, but for shorter stays (quicker/easier fitting) I've also got a smaller much lighter Sunncamp 2.6m poled (just one single hooped pole!) awning. Highly recommend that, in fact it's become pretty much my regular awning for all stays, thanks to it's easy up/down time and effort! Sunncamp Swift Deluxe, but just about every brand does a version of it with no obvious difference! Poled or Airbeam versions available, IMHO the pole is so easy and quick to fit, I see no real benefit in the significantly more expensive airbeam version!
the awning size you need for that caravan would be 825 cm, that would give the proper fit and leave it so the window could be opened internally of the awning, i think when you refer to a 2 meter is that you have been looking at porch awnings? for the difference in size and price and effort erecting i would just buy the proper full awning for your caravan so it fits right

I dont mind the gas locker being in it either. Unless that's a safety issue ?
M�nty15. I have been looking at the Sunncamp Swift 220 which I think would just fit, we are not so fit now and would like something easy just for shelter for weekend trips. I don't think we will be using van in the winter in really bad weather.
We will also remember to clean the window before covering it.
We hadn't considered the problem of finding a suitable awning when we bought van. My husband is new to towing and we have a smaller car hence the really small van. If he likes Caravanning we will get a bigger van maybe next year and change the car. At the moment we have a Motability vehicle but may buy our own and use the payment for maintenance insurance etc.
you measure from the ground under the end of the awning channel up the front, along the roof and then back down to the ground down the back channel, this is done in cm,s this gives you your size of awning required for your caravan..
you will more than be able to put a couple of chairs and a table inside it.
825cm is the size for a full awning, covering the whole side of the van. We have a Sprite Finesse, which is a similar size to your Bailey Orion and use a full awning for our main holidays. For shorter stays we have a 220 inflatable porch awning which is big enough for a table and two chairs. Hope this helps.
