After over 10 years of use, our aquaroll float valve has packed in, and as I was looking for a new one online, I noticed that there are a number of universal options online rather than the official Hitchman one that we had before.
Has anyone got one of these universal ones and do they work as well as the official one? They are half the price of the Hitchman one so I am tempted but I want to make sure they fit and work just as well. The float part seems a lot bigger than the cup style float on the Hitchman one and I was wondering if the larger float might stop the pump going into the aquaroll. We have a piece of pipe on our pump to keep it straight and right down in the bottom of the aquaroll as the Truma intake hose is notorious for curling up. I wonder if the universal float valves will be too close to the pump hose in this configuration and the float will be prevented from floating by the intake hose.
I needed the larger securing ring for my Waterhog, the Hitchman Aquaroll one it too small. Can't make comparisons as it's the only one I've tried, but it works perfectly well if that helps! Made by PCL so a big name manufacturer in camping equipment!

cant understand why people still use this method we use a Truma waterline
One of our favourite sites is in an area where they have to use a water pump to get water to the site. This results in massive daily fluctuations in pressure at the taps. When we go there, there is usually a point every day where the hose is blown off the aquaroll due to a massive pressure surge. A few years ago some poor soul opposite us with a truma direct connection had their caravan flooded as the pressure surge blew their pipework inside the caravan while they were out. We came home from a day out and noticed water pouring out from one of their side lockers, so quickly turned their tap off, but apparently there had been over a foot of water inside and all their electrics were ruined as well. They thought they were fine as they had the pressure reducing valve on their waterline but as the pressure in the morning was only a trickle, they had turned it up to get sufficient pressure and hadn’t realised about the daily surges. As we visit this site most years and are going this summer for a couple of weeks, we are definitely not considering the Truma waterline. I would prefer the hose to blow off the aquaroll and water start to flood the pitch (which someone always spots quite quickly and turns the tap off) rather than blow the pipework inside the caravan and silently flood the inside.

This happened to us in France, excess pressure blew the pipe off the fitting even with a jubilee clip on tightly.

I have just purchased a side fill float valve from Toolstation. I screwed the aquaroll cap off the original and attached it to the new part. It was really easy to do. I won’t be able to test it out for a few weeks as our caravan is in storage, but it looks good so fingers crossed!

Well done Pixie. Had mine about 15 years and still going strong. Same place if you ever need a new tap.

We replaced our caravan kitchen tap a few years ago with a standard generic one from Screwfix after seeing the eye watering price of the official Swift tap. It look a bit of searching around to find adaptors to plug into the existing pipework but it was still much cheaper than the Swift replacement.
