Hi

We have a spare wheel but no means of jacking up the Elddis 302 van to access it. The van has a BPW chassis so the Kojack solution isn't readily possible as it's intended for Alko. Have tried car jack without success, and don't want to carry heavy trolley jack (small car and caravan). Intend to tour in Europe next year. Anybody got a solution?

The Kojack is just a high lift bottle jack, provided you can get it or any other bottle jack under the chassis by the axle you should be ok. If you google it does appear that jacking points to go with Kojack are available for BPW chassis & this would be better than jacking under chassis.

Thanks for the responses.

I think that the problem is the very limited clearance when the tyre is flat, and the Kojack system provides an elevated jacking point to get around that.

I don't want to carry a trolley jack, although that would do the job, as it would be a significant weight to carry - we have a lightweight van and car and carry folding bikes in the car.

Suspect that, if the Kojack system will fit to the BPW chassis, that may well be the way to go.

I would've thought that an "ordinary" decent/HD scissor jack we be just the job..?...

They close up slim,so initial clearance wouldn't be an issue..and if need be,you could source/make as long a "winding arm" as you wanted(..so no scrattin' underneath to pump it up..)

Personally,I'd start by asking at a local vehicle breakers,to see what light commercial jacks they had knocking about.

All of our three MHs(..a Transit,Peugeot X250 Boxer and our current Renault Master),came with scissor jacks...

The last two jacks were particularly impressive..and I would've thought well up to the task of tipping a caravan...

Although I do think that I would still look at bolting on some form of "socket bracket" onto the van,to receive the jack and to stop it from slipping...

I use a 2 ton scissor jack with a ratchet handle. I find that it is much more versatile in the event of unusual situations and it folds really flat

Ours has the Al Ko jack and fittings as standard but we carry a 5 tonne bottle jack in the car boot.
I fitted previous van with the Kojack but the seals went in it.
I have 2 trolley jacks and axle stands in the garage from my classic car owning time.
I will use them at home.

I have both Kojack and a small trolley jack at home.

However, out on the road, I would not even consider trying to change a wheel. Strikes me as being far to dangerous with the traffic situation these days. If the situation arose, I would call roadside rescue. At least they have a large motor to park between then and on coming traffic.

Presumably the same help is available abroad.

Easier to have a breakdown service to change the wheel on the caravan. Only a scissor jack will work as it can go under the axle when you have a flat tyre. We had an Elddis on a BPW chassis but never had to use the jack.

That maybe true about using a scissor jack under the axle with a flat tyre but there is a solution to that problem. If you pull the caravan up onto a plastic levelling ramp with the towcar then that will give you enough room to access any type of jack.

Yes, I noted that and wondered why the topic had been raised again.
Nevertheless, still a very valid topic and clearly of interest to some.
