Hey campers.
I'm on the lookout for 4 new camping chairs and couldn't find any recent posts. We had the urban escape chairs for about 5 years which we liked but they got really mouldy in the shed over the winter and got binned as we couldn't clean them up. Replaced them with a similar chair but a Halfords brand, not the urban escape and they were muck. 2 were in pieces 2/3 days into they're maiden voyage so we got a refund.
So, we need 4 new ones. As long as they're comfy and all 4 fit in the roof box I'm not fussy on type, colour, brand etc. What have people got and would recommend to buy or avoid? I just need them to be for sale in Ireland or can be shipped here in less than a few weeks. Preferably under €200 delivered but can spend a little more if it's good value.
Thanks for reading.
Depends what type of chair you want and what you want them for. Just before we went away at the beginning of this month we bought a pair of zero-gravity recliners from Argos. £26 each. They are lovely and comfortable and seem quite sturdy, but they wouldn't be much good for sitting at a table for a meal. A bit too low for that.
Mine is Regatta as it was on offer on the day I went shopping for one, and I like it as it feels very sturdy and comfortable.
Can't remember which shop, however, it was most likely to be a GO as I did not buy it online.
I find folding camping chair is too low/deep to use at a normal height table, and prefer to use folding aluminium bistro chairs instead.
Sounds crazy, however, I carry 4 types of chairs when I was a tenter and now in the van, as I cannot find one chair that fits it all!
1 x Regatta folding camping chair (largely redundant except to take to concerts and group events)
2 x Folding aluminium bistro chairs for use with a normal height table for dining purposes
1 x Lafuma zero gravity recliner
1 x small stool/table (the stool was used as a foot stool in conjunction with a folding camping chair while I was a tenter, before I treated myself to a Lafuma recliner when I got the van)

I've got a couple of unbranded/obscure brand directors chairs I got from Costco, all but identical to Outwell Bredon Hills Directors Chair.
They weren't cheap by any means at 40 odd pounds each, they were very comfortable to start with and people commented on their comfort, after a couple of years use they still look immaculate, but I noticed the seat fabric has stretched a little and your outer thighs now rest on the unpadded diagonal frame bars a little, which makes them somewhat uncomfortable after a time. A seat cushion would resolve the problem.
They are very light (one of the reasons I chose them) and stable, and the flip up side table has been very useful.
We've been very impressed with our (Now 10 year old) Outwell Windsor Hills Chairs, which came with zip on leg/foot rests.
Heavily used, the fabric is starting to wear thin (but still usable, touch wood). Unfortunately Outwell have stopped making them, and for the past 12 months or so... in preparation for when they finally give in... I've been searching for something similar, without success... until last week!
Almost identical to the Outwells, although these new ones appear to be more padded, as opposed to Outwell's single ply material.
Available as singles or a pair (No saving!). Available in blue or grey. Arrived yesterday. First impressions are very good, but yet to put them to the test...
I've gone back in time and bought two proper British made wooden deck chairs. A coat of Danish Oil and we're now good to go. I'd forgotten just how comfy they are.

Danish oil?
We call that "Bacon Fat" around here!
I bet the chairs smell fantastic!
We have something like this and they are excellent for relaxing; less good for dining - similar to Mucker’s recommendation. Listed at €76 each from Outwell, there’s a dealer in Wicklow, and two in the North.
WOW! Just had a look on Argos website for the zero gravity sun loungers we bought at the beginning of July, and they have gone up from £26 each to £40 each! Glad we got them when we did.
We also keep a couple of folding chairs, not unlike the Outwell ones, in the back of the car. We've had them for years and they go everywhere with us as they take up so little space. They are unbranded and I think I picked them up in a services once. Don't think they were more than £10 each, and we've certainly had some use out of them.
We ended up buying Dometic Comfort Firenze chairs.
Any we looked at online were either out of stock or wouldn't be with us in time so decided to stop at decathlon as we'd be passing it but they went out of stock on every seat they had the weekend before we left
We stopped at OMeara camping instead as it wasn't too far out of our way and sat on every seat they had and 3 of us decided on the dometic and one child decided on a smaller kampa folding chair.
So far so good with them anyway. They were a bit more expensive than we were hoping to spend but they're very comfy, seem sturdy and they have a 3 year warranty so fingers crossed they'll do us a long time.

Should have tried Argos. Even at their current price, which is a lot more than we paid when we bought ours, they are quite a bit cheaper and look much more comfortable. Ours go down into a recliner with a foot rest that comes up as you recline, should you want it. We got two for £52 the pair.
