I'm undecided if I should buy a basic Cadac system and have seen there are mixed reviews on them.
I've also seen some use a George Foreman grill which are obviously electric but couldn't these have amp issues and keep tripping the pitch electrics ??
Does anyone use either of these and give any recommendations/advice ?
We have used both over time. You are right in saying that the George Foreman could cause issues with the electric if you are on a site with anything less than 16amp. But one plus you have paid for your electric so not using up your gas supply like a Cadac will.
We have had 2 types of Cadac, first one was the bigger version Cadac Carri Chef. You can cook absolutely anything and everything on them. Once the kids stopped coming we changed to the smaller Cadac Safari Chef model. Wouldn't be without one now, great bit of kit and ideal for the 2 of us.

We inherited a George Forman grill & we plug it into the outside of the MH. I’d say it’s much less versatile than the Cadac that I saw in a caravan shop. But it’s also a lot less bulky, which is why we’ll stick to the Forman for now, will leave it at home if we don’t use it regularly.
We have an Aldi induction hob too, strictly for cooking things like steak outdoors - we don’t want the smoke from searing inside the MH. The Foreman won’t do steak - it has just one specific temperature that we can’t adjust and it’s not hot enough to sear anything.
I like the look of the George Foreman grill and griddle but wonder if they will constantly be tripping the electric ?
I much prefer using electricity rather than gas with regards everything to do with the caravan but if I settle for a cadac I'll have to get used to using gas more and learning to relax when using it. Bit of a stress head me !!
GF grills vary in wattage. My small grill is 700w and the larger one is 760w.
Neither are likely to trip the EHU unless you are using something else that consumes much more. They are quick and easy to use but not as versatile as a Cadac.
I tend to use a Cobb bbq if I am staying one a site for a while as I do like a charcoal based bbq in preference to a gas burner but it is a personal choice. I often bake bread in my Cobb as well as roasting, grilling etc. The smell of freshly baked bread coming from a bbq does tend to confuse some people when they walk past.

We've got a campinggaz party grill 400 - its like a cheapy cadac. We've had it for 3 or 4 years and even use it as our garden BBQ at home. It's ace. Whatever you get I advise thinking carefully about how many people you are feeding - don't get anything too big as youll end up heating the air not the food and too small youll steam rather than bbq the food.
There is only the wife and I to feed. I have been looking at some cadac safari which are online at around £80. I think the safari is one of the smaller cadacs ?! Seems a decent price too ?
The Safari range are the smallest of the Cadac range.
There are various versions, the Light, which is about £80 to £90 comes with just the burner unit, pot stand, fat catcher, grill plate and lid. The Safari Chef 2 (or 30 as the new model is called) comes with all those plus the flat griddle and is about £15 more expensive. They both come with a carry bag. You can get extra bits like a pizza stone for them but for thar you also need the flat griddle.
The Safari Chef 2/30 comes in both high pressure and low pressure options. The low pressure ones run off different sizes of camping gas bottles, an external gas point on a caravan or Motorhome or a Cadac power pack. The Light and the HP models only run off screw in gas canisters.
We’ve had both and to be honest we found the screw in canisters were a pain to connect and hard to find in some parts of Europe. It also seemed less powerful than the LP.
Whichever you get make sure you use the right gas supply as they can’t be swapped over, Having said that some places are selling an adapter to allow a HP to run an LP stove but when I enquired with Cadac customer services they did not recommend this.
Thanks for the info. The one i have been looking at is the safari chef 2 HP but from what you say this cannot run from my caravans external gas supply ?
Its a cheap £35 Homebase BBQ for us every time. Lasts maybe 3 years, but we do 90% of the cooking on it. Neither do we have to clean it, nor does it matter if it gets a scrape or dink. I've had cadacs, and they just are not worth the money, nor work as good either IMO.
Have the cadac safari high pressure. Struggles to heat in the wind and personally I think cadacs are over priced for what they are.
I have taken the smaller foreman grills to campsites and used them on ehu without any issues (medium size rated 1300 to 1600w). They cook burgers/sausages faster and less fat than a frying pan/cadac. If you are a "cook" and want the flexibility (or you buy into the cadac "lifestyle" message), then get a cadac. Or get the campingaz party 400 and a foreman grill for the same money for even more flexibility.
If you go for the campingaz - be aware there are two versions of the 400 - one that works off small canisters and ones that will work off you caravan external gas point (or large bottles with regulators)
We've used them all over the years. Our cadac hasn't been used for 2 or 3 years. We tend to use a small foldable charcoal bbq and a large George foreman grill (the one with griddle and toastie maker) and find that works well for us. Our style of camping has changed though, we are now seasonally sited with occasional forays out with the tent or to a wigwam.
