When is the best time to start selling camping kit? And where is best to list these days? On here? eBay? FB Marketplace?
Changing our car in March and the new one is a bit smaller, as fewer children joining us/have their own cars.
Thinking of getting ride of big 6man tent and getting smaller, maybe offload a few bits to the children if they want anything. Fancied car camping but not really practical as I’m lazy and don’t want to pack up every time we want to go out in the car!
Get it on as many sites as you can and wait and see if anyone bites. Despite what you think it may be worth buyers may not agree!
We had ours advertised for months, tent, extension, carpet but had no interest apart from timewasters. Put it on freecycle and it had gone within minutes. Fair play the new owner gave us a few quid when we dropped it off with them.
You could start on here, as the ads are free, and I expect that your kit might be quite popular. And as there doesn't appear to be a time limit, you could list it anytime now. I expect there will be folk browsing during the Christmas holidays.
I organised one during Covid via FB and got rid off a lot of my tenting gears that way locally, including the Kampa Khazi! People were buying portable toilets for camping during Covid and they were sold out everywhere!
I sold my ESVO Bedouin 340 cotton canvas Dutch Pyramid via eBay to a scout group. When the buyer came to view the tent and accessories, I let him have the old Hypercamp Escala 4 that I was going to put into the bin too.

Personally I would put off selling for a month or two. At this time of year people are more concerned with Christmas and New Year than with camping so prices will be at their lowest if you get any interest at all. However, once January is over and people are over Christmas, thoughts turn to summer holidays and prices begin to recover. Sell in spring, buy in autumn or winter is my mantra when it comes to any kind of camping equipment.
