I have an Outwell Annatto stove with two high output burners. The stove uses EN417 gas cartridges. The problem I have is that even the biggest EN417 cartridges are quite small and don’t last long. I would much prefer using a large refillable gas bottle on a long camping holiday. The stove says it can take butane or propane so that should be fine. But I’m not clear what regulator or adapter I need. Is it even possible to use large gas bottles with a stove made for EN417? Or should I buy a different stove? Much online research has yielded no reliable result! Help much appreciated!!
I did look at the dual cartridge adaptor but I wasn’t sure it would work as I want. I want to prolong the time between changing gas bottles/cartridges, not increase the power to the stove. From reading the description of that dual power adaptor it seemed it was designed for extra power, not longer run. Am I wrong?
The cobb adaptor seems to be made for the purpose that I need but the thread on my stove is different.
I recently went down that road trying to use a large caravan gas bottle to use with Weber goanywhere BBQ which also uses the small screw in cylinders.
I was advised that the small cylinders are high pressure and the grill I have has a regulator to reduce the pressure. As my caravan also has a regulator, using 2 regulators is a no-no. So does your kit have an inbuilt regulator? If not, you could contact Huddersfield Gas co, they have an ology in all things gas related. As a foot note, I tried to get rid of the regulator from the Weber but as it was designed to be the support for the flame tube this was not possible.
I use one of these and a large propane (patio gas) cylinder with my Weber GoAnywhere Gas BBQ and it works a treat. It should connect to anything that accepts and EN417 thread. Expensive though.
Thanks guys. I feel like I’m getting closer to a solution. Might require some professional advice from Huddersfield gas…. To answer your question Tony my outwell stove does not have a regulator.
I’m not sure if the one Tim is suggesting will screw on my stove. That seems to be biggest problem for me. Getting something to fit on the stove that takes a large propane bottle on the other end. I’ll post a picture of the connection in a minute.
These last two photos are the connection to the stove. I’ve not seen anything like it on a regulator for large butane bottles.
The first photo is the connection to the EN451 cartridge.
The photo of the whole thing shows how short it is (about 30cm). If I don’t succeed in finding a large bottle adaptor/regulator I can use with this stove then I would at least like a longer gas connector similar to what I’ve got. Any advice on that also most welcome!
Ps. Going on camping hols in a weeks time so the clock is ticking!

Tim, does the end of this adapter screw directly into your bbq or does it screw into the connector that came with your bbq? Thanks.
Thanks Tim. That connection would work then. Awesome! And presumably the pressure would be sufficiently high? I understand there are low pressure and high pressure camping stoves. Mine’s a high pressure one with two 3500 burners. I don’t mind if the pressure drops a little compared to the canisters as long as it’s still good for cooking.
It’s designed to be exactly equivalent, but I find my bbq doesn’t burn quite as hot. That’s probably because propane is a bit less energetic than butane. On the plus side, the big cylinder is far more consistent and you don’t have to worry about whether it’ll run out mid cook.
