So we’ve had one for a few months. Not used it on site yet so today with a bit of spare time in a while. Thought I’d give it a dry run so fired up the cobb and waited to see what come out. Tried out a small gammon joint added a few potatoes in the base. This thing really works gammon cooked great must remember to add potatoes later next time. Though mini jackets was a nice surprise.

True enough cobb stones are a pain to light used a fire lighter in the end.

Now need work out what to do next time any pointers are welcome. So pleased with it a great bit of kit for vanlife

I have the BBQ kit and used it as a BBQ for just myself, instead of getting the Weber Go Anywhere BBQ out.

It worked well, however, cleaning the grill was a pain and I do not expect it to be sparkly ever again.

I also got some of the bowl liners to minimise cleaning, and yes I use them more than once!

Not sure what you meant by the standard fair, I make my own burgers and make different marinades for the meats such as chicken thighs, lamb chops, lamb ribs, pork shoulder steaks, belly slices or pork ribs.

Also have corns and veggie kebabs or grilled vegetables such as bell peppers, large field mushrooms, and aubergines etc...

Just about anything that you can cook in an oven or grill is possible with a Cobb and some of the add-ons. I've had some good results roasting chickens, smoking fish, baking bread and assorted stews and curries. It is very much trial and error but there are quite a few recipes online if you search for them. There used to be a few facebook groups but I've not looked at them recently. The Cobb kettle is a good investment as it helps to get the heat quicker and provides the hot water for a brew.

The bowl of my Cobb looks disgusting but it still functions as it should. Oven cleaner every now and then gets the worst of the muck off the bowl.

I love my Cobb and have cooked all sorts, from low and slow Pork Belly, Rack of Lamb, Steaks, Pizza, roast spuds and also used it as normal BBQ.

All sounds great stuff thanks for the reply’s I have been thinking of a extra add ons. I have thought about a kettle but they don’t make them anymore. The other thing I’ve thought about is the expansion ring. Any other that are worth thinking about ?

I’ve seen some good stuff on you tube. I had thought of just using like an oven. Which is the main reason we bought it. That and the fact you can move in and it stays cold to touch so more practical than just a BBQ.

I do not need an expansion ring as I doubt I would roast a whole chicken when I go camping on my own with the dog!

I bought it for BBQing for one when the weather is good.

If you are looking for a kettle, Ghillie kettle makes a Cobb adaptor for their kettles. That's what I am eyeing, however, I can't justify it.

dk 168 I too have seen them as I have a Kelley kettle but they are proving hard to find and I think they only fit the larger size to the one I have.

For use using the Cobb mostly as a BBQ was not the main thing way we got one. But the chance to cook on it. As you’d. do with an oven. I know that’s not for everyone and they are more than happy using it just as BBQ which is equally valid.

Glad you are getting good results - one of the attractions of the Cobb for me is the small amount of briquettes they use especially if you are just cooking for one or two.

The Cobblestones look quite pricey. 6 for £16-£18 (£20 if you buy from Lakeland) is about £2.50-£3 for each time you fire up the Cobb. Australian heat beads are around £8 for 4kg bag and I reckon you can get about 7 or 8 burns from a bag.   I've ordered some to give them a try.

Would have tried Weber briquettes but no-one stocks them locally.

Not sure if the frying pan (not the wok pan) is worth getting. Thinking that if all I want to do is fry - I'll just use the gas stove.

Same here with regard to a kettle and frying pan - I can use the kettle and hob inside my van as I am highly unlikely to go off-grid, and shall carry a suitcase stove if I do like going to a rally with other V-dubbers.

Australian Heat Beads are perfect for the Cobb. You only need to use 7 or 8 and if you douse them when you finish cooking they can be reused when dry.
The Range sells them if you have one local to you
