Think we're going to buy the Carri chef but I'm not sure how to get the gas to it. We have an external gas point on our caravan but after going through the awning the hose will probably have to be in excess of 2m long. I have read a number of reviews saying the cadac doesn't like this so is there a better way - small canisters perhaps? or will a long hose suffice.
Reviews all look positive on this model but if owners could let me know their thoughts it would be greatly appreciated.
The length of hose, so long as it's not a silly length, should be no problem, the recommendation for no more than 2m is mostly about safety, of reducing trip hazard of long trailing hoses AND undetected damage/deterioration that is less likely spotted on longer hoses.
The longer the hose, the more restrictive it is to gas flow, but 3 or 4 m of the correct bore hose is not going to be an issue, your onboard cooker and fridge, and possibly your water/heating boiler as well, are considerably more than 2m from your gas bottles AND on small bore metal plumbing, and they work just fine!
We use about 2.5m of hose and it's never been a problem with gas pressure.
I suppose the trip hazard may be an issue to some, but not if you're sensible about it.
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
Hi, Don’t think you will have any issues. For many years I carried a 6kg propane for use with the Cadac as this allowed me freedom to site it where it was safe and sheltered.
It also meant I had back up on longer trips abroad but switched to using van outlet back in 2019.
