We're going on our first caravan holiday in 2 weeks. Our 1 year old Jack Russell Terrier with us and just wondering if anyone can recommend a stake and long lead for him whilst on site.
Thanks :)

I use a metal chain, about 1.8m long, hooked it up to the Delta Dog Tether and the dog via karabina and swivel trigger hook etc., as can be seen in this pic:
I would strongly recommend the extra long peg remover from the same vendor, as it makes the task of removing the pegs much less strenuous.

Hi we use just a normal screw in type with a webbing type dog lead with a clasp at each end. This was about 3 yrs ago
Dave the dog a Staffordshire Bull Terrier weighing 20kgs
Has never broke free or pulled it out of the ground ok he's very chilled but if he wanted to go he's very determined and very powerful
So imho I'd just buy the cheap screw in type and a good lead and a harness so if he pulls he's not pulling on his/her neck

can also recommend the delta dog tether, we used to have the screw in ones but our 2 labs always manage to bend them or get tangled up in them constantly, with the Delta we've had no problems at all

May 13 - Cala Gogo, St Cyprien (didn't go, hubby too ill to travel)
May 14 Ranc Davaine
August 14 Les Sablons
August 13 - Camping Playa Brava, Pals
This is a third recommendation for the Delta dog tether. Our dog used to constantly tangle herself with the screw in tethers and they broke too easily. We have had the Delta for a few years now and it works a treat.
Another one here for the Delta dog tether, imo you can't beat it. I did once have one of the corkscrew-type ones but the dogs would get tangled up round it - it eventually snapped off at ground level so I got a Delta and it's been brilliant.

Thanks everyone, I've just ordered the delta one, just hope it comes back before we go on 1st May, just the cable to get now which should be easy enough to pick up!
Thanks :)

Dorothy is very quick to ship the goods out, therefore, I am 99.99% confident that you will get it before 01 May!
By the way, I forgot to mention the reason for using a metal chain is that the dog managed to chew himself free from a long fabric lead while he was tethered in the yard of my place of work a while back.
I still use a fabric lead for when he is inside the tent, however, I am with him all the time except when I go to the facilities block.
A lot of peeps do not bother about tethering their dogs inside the tent, I used to do the same, however, mine discovered a way to get out of the tent by nudging the junction where 3 zips meet. Therefore, to be on the safe side for him and other dogs walking pass, I tether him inside the tent nowadays.

Thanks again, we're in a caravan so I was just intending to tether him when outside. I planned to get the cable that has a plastic outer with metal running through it.
Next decision is length!!!

Good thing about a chain is that I can easily shorten it by looping off a section using a karabina.
Can't do that with a cable.

we have a Delta too and it's by far better than a screw in type as it's virtually tangle free. we use three of those "multi" leads (the sort with a clip on both ends and a couple of metal loops)clipped end to end. It's then easy to just shorten or lengthen it quickly by clipping in further up the lead.
I'm sure your Delta will arrive in plenty of time , they have excellent customer service and very nprompt delivery

The CC stipulates a lead/cable of no more than three metres (10ft) and many sites I've researched for myself state the same. Depending on where you peg the tether, if the lead is short enough to stop your dog from going beyond the boundary of your pitch you should be ok.

Ooer, I learnt something new today re: length of dog lead/cable.
I decided on the length so that it is long enough for him to jump up and sit on my lap when I am sitting under the front section of the tent, and short enough so that he cannot reach beyond the pitch's boundary.
For the fabric lead inside the tent, it is long enough for him to jump up and sleep on his bed, yet short enough so that he just about poke his little head out of the tent door to satisfy his curiosity (he is a terrier afterall).

A chain is OK if it is attached to a harness but if attached to a collar then you must have something to absorb the shock if the dog runs. It is very common for dogs to injure their necks in this way.
