Hi all,
We take delivery of our new caravan in March next year so I'm trying to get the kit together bit by bit. After reading through lots of forums I've decided on the Mobicool FR40 fridge as we'll be doing month long trips in Europe over the summer months. My question is are these ever on sale? For example should I wait for January sales or just go ahead and buy now.
Many thanks in advance
Always thought the prices here were always pretty good.
Have never seen them on offer anywhere I must admit.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We have always taken an extra fridge to France, it is purely used for drinks. It either travels in the car or the caravan then spends it's holiday in the awning.

Let us know where you get it from, could be useful for other members.

Hi, as promised an update on my purchase. I have gone ahead and bought the mobicool FR40. Unfortunately no deal to be had at the time of buying, (should have bought when I originally posted as I'm pretty sure it was cheaper) I paid north of £300, I did see it cheaper elsewhere at €299 but it was not in stock until the 31/08. No good to us as we go away next Friday. Despite the high price paid I'm glad to have Purchased it now and am hoping to get a good few years out of it. I've had quite an exciting week with delivery of our new BBQ, canopy, sunloungers and many other items corelle plates etc. Finally kitted out the caravan and it feels great.
Isn't it lovely, kitting out a new camping unit? Which Corelle did you go for? I can't find any that I really like and just wonder if it'd be a good idea in tent camping (due to the additional weight - okay in a caravan but heavier than good melamine to carry to the washing up area). Did you get a set with the bread and butter plates or the larger luncheon plates?
I have had a set previously but didn't like it (it was plain), so it went back. I also thought the mugs were hideous (very odd that they manufacture delicate crockery then add chunky stoneware mugs?!
I think you'll be happy with the FR40, we think ours is one of our better buys!
Hi Lidds0, I bought the below set from Amazon, its a really nice set, dinner plates, salad plates bowls and cups. The cups look fine, there were other cheaper sets but for some bizarre reason I only drink tea out of white cups 🙄 I really liked the pattern on this one too. We are a family of 5 but the children are still using Mickey, Minnie plastic plates and cups so just bought for us adults.
Corelle 16-Piece Vitrelle Glass Provincial Blue Chip and Break Resistant Dinner Set, Service for 4,
Glad you think the FR40 is a good buy, It's very expensive and I'm still trying to justify the outlay to my other half, really need to get some good use out of it, it cost more than the Isabella Canopy!
Yep good choice Mumof32011, the Waeco equivalent would be about double the price, for doing the same job, and both units come from Dometic in anycase.
The Mobicool FR40 was not around back in 2008 when we got our Waeco CF25, although we did get a good deal at £150 new, but had to pay a courier charge of £20 to get it sent up from Southampton, so £170 all in really.
I have never regretted spending that on a portable fridge, the Waeco is great for the 1000 mile journey down to Frejus, and was our main camping fridge untill 2013 when we added the mains only Mobicool C40 to our kit list.
If the Waeco ever packs in, I would buy the Mobicool FR40 in the blink of an eye!
Dometic Combicool RC2200 3-Way Portable Absorption Cool Box, 41 L, 12 V / 230 V / Gas (UK Spec) is the one we have. Costs about £270 It is a great fridge, except that at a maximum of 30 degrees below ambient it can struggle in the heat of France. It is great in tbe UK and most days in Northern France.
Also if we put too much stuff in it which is at room temperature the laws of physics mean that it takes a while to cool them down, particularly large bottles of liquid.
If I had my time again I would buy a compressor fridge and it would be the Waeco dual zone 65. A lot of money but an ace product.
I was thinking of getting the fr40 to downsize from my dometic rf60. I always find it's too big to take in the car for camping and hope the fr40 will give me more space for my camping gear. Is it noisy at all?
