Hi My daughter and I are new to campervans. Not sure what leveling blocks to get, also is it better to have a 10 or 25 metre electric hook up cable?
Any information would be appreciated.
The 25 metre lead will reach the same sockets as the 10 metre lead and a load of others that the 10 metre one won't.
Ramps are a subjective choice. Some prefer simple tapered ramps while others prefer stepped. Yet others rely on short lengths of timber.
If it was me I would get 2 No 10 meter leads.
We have a 10 meter and so far on all our camping trips we have never needed any more than that but we are in a tent so maybe different in a campervan.
Can't help you on the leveling blocks but ta lot or vans I see about use the drive on ramps
I'm sure someone else will put me right of I'm wrong.
Ramps - we've had the Milenco quattro ones with the honeycombe texture and although a lot swear by them we found them to be unforgiving on the tyres so got rid of them and swapped to Fiamma level up ones and are much happier with them.
Leads - we carry a 10 and 25m as the van came with a 25m one. Gives you choice and saves unwinding a long lead half way round a campsite so to speak - NEVER leave it wound up when in use as it's a fire risk.
Space will dictate in a campervan what you end up buying as you will find out once you start kitting it out. Happy travels.
One longer cable. You can’t connect 2 cables to make one longer one on the Club sites, independent sites may allow it but you need a junction box to protect the connection.
One of our favourite sites has very widely spaced pitches & we’ve noticed vans with the 10m cables aren’t able to use some of the pitches because they can’t reach the stanchions.
Yes, take it all off the cable on site but just loop it tidily on the opposite of the van to the habitation door. I’m not convinced about the overheating if you leave the surplus on the coil, never seen it happen, but no point risking it - and it avoids someone on site helpfully telling you that your cable’s going to go up in smoke.
