Hi everyone, just picked up a Coleman Octogon 8 pristine condition for £70. I’m looking for a tent carpet solution that doesn’t cost the same as the tent. Any suggestions or recommendations please?
Common solution for cheaper than pucka fitted carpet is Picnic Blanket, or the breathable type awning carpets. Both give a good degree of comfort under bare feet, and a degree of insulation, plus a bit of protection for the SIG.
Another solution is the 'jigsaw' clip together foam mats (but think of the bulk for transporting!). I use them as the flooring in the bedroom of my tent, whilst living space has pucka carpet (bought cheap!).
If you want a perfect fit to all walls (rarely necessary for practical use IMHO), buy oversize and cut down to fit, but bumping up cost to throw away some of it!
I used large PVC-backed picnic blankets as tent carpets in the living area of my Dutch pyramid tents when I was a tenter, and they worked well.
Also tried a carpet for awnings, and that worked well too.
Although they were not footprints that matched the exact same shapes as the living area, I found them to be adequate as I did not use or need to use the areas in the edges except to place the storage boxes and crates etc. without any traffic once the tent was set up.

We did the same, but did find that the PVC backing was a bit slippery on the plastic floor of the inner tent. Did the job, but frankly there was so little tent floor showing around the airbed that we stopped using it eventually.
