Rather sad to hear, they were one of the bigger and well stocked outlets.
It's becoming more noticeable over past year or so that choice of outlets is diminished, I had my favourites, but many have gone now, but even those that remain have cut back on what they stock.
With the demise of caravan/MH dealers and even manufacturers under threat, it looks like the camping sector is in decline. Coupled with the vacancies I've seen at peak times on formally popular camp sites, it seems to be across the board! The CAMC's endless 'deals' imply for the second season, that their bookings are down too.

If true that's a shame, taking the kids to the Winfields in Hull was like a day out form them, 3 floors of tents, it was great.
That's our local store too, much preferred it to GoOutdoors. Liked to go for a wander round and got quite alot of our camping gear from there.

Its definitely going to be a loss in Hull. The same as yourself Winfield's was my go to camping shop (I did buy stuff in addition to using it as a play area for the kids). The whole Go Outdoors membership card setup feels like a con. The only other shops are Trespass and Blacks, but both are tiny and overpriced compared to Winfield's.
On the subject of decline... I've just come back from a short stay at Devizes C&CC site. Quite often it's difficult to get a pitch here; it's a very popular stop-over for people travelling north/south or vice versa, but I was amazed at the number of empty pitches there were. Also, on my journeys to and from the site I hardly saw any other camping units on the road. Where is everyone?
