complete novice who has just bought an old camper van.
I have bought a Bulldog Euro clamp and just wondered if it makes any difference if it is attached to front or rear wheel?
Thanks in advance, and grateful for any advice.
As long as the wheel can't be removed with the clamp in place it doesn't really matter. The vehicle can't be moved with a clamp on any wheel unless it is towed with that axle lifted, and the thieves would need a proper tow-truck to do that.
It shouldn't make any difference if fitted to front or rear wheel, it will fulfil it's purpose of stopping the wheel rotating.
Whilst it's a high security lock in itself, it's major flaw is that it doesn't stop the wheel being removed/replaced to overcome the lock! - you would need quality locking wheel nuts/bolts in addition to truly provide security.
Wheel clamp should hopefully deter planned thefts & give you peace of mind.
We use a good quality steering wheel lock, which goes on quickly every time we leave the vehicle: some MHs are taken by the opportunist thief when you’ve only away for 20 minutes to go into the supermarket; a wheel clamp might be less straightforward so you might not bother.
The stolen vehicle page on UKCS gives the context for most MH & caravan thefts.
Please remember though that all anti-theft devices, such as wheel clamps and steering wheel locks are only a deterrent to the casual opportunist thief, they will not stop a "professional". If one of them decides to target your vehicle, they will have it whatever you do. It once happened to me. They will come equipped with the necessary equipment to remove ANY anti-theft device in minutes. If necessary they will even bring a transporter truck as they did with mine, and I didn't hear a thing!
