WANTED: Campingaz 901 bottles.

I'm after a couple of Campingaz 901 bottles - not a problem if they're empty as I have the resources to refill them from the ubiquitous 227g butane aerosol cannisters. I live not too far from Peterborough in North Cambridgeshire - don't mind travelling a reasonable distance to collect.

I've read that the 901 model has been/is being phased out and now they're now as common as hen's teeth!

There are a couple for sale here on eBay. Not cheap and some look quite ropey. Have you tried all your local tips? Prelover is anoter source that often proves fruitful.

Thanks. Shipping I think is an issue too. The Post Office and Parcelforce won't tonch LPG and I suspect a lot of couriers will pull out a crucifix when the contents are stated too.

I did find one LPG provider who had a few end-of-line 901s left for sale who was not a million miles away but he wanted thirty quid each. Hmmm . . . . 901, £30.00, a c500 disposable, £6.00. OK the 901's are, oops were, returnable but as Campingaz are no longer refilling them after use, unless you're like me and have the ability to refill them users are left with a piece of scrap.

I know what you mean, I had problems getting a Co2 canister refilled.

However, that guy has already sold and posted 27 of them so he seams to know how to use the postal/courier system.

The Ebay seller in Essex is selling them without caps.
You cannot exchange a Campingaz cylinder without a cap, you would have to buy a new cap for £5 before exchanging it for a full one with a cap.
You're not allowed to remove the cap from the full cylinder and put it on the empty one as you hand it in.

You could still buy 901 Campingaz cylinders in supermarkets in France last year but there was no exchange service. I've found it difficult to locate Campingaz dealers that do exchange any size cylinder in France. Decathlon were doing a deal giving away an empty 907 Campingaz cylinder with new stoves but you'd have to find a dealer to exchange it at before you could use it.
It's increasingly difficult to refill Campingaz 904 cylinders in the UK.

As I say I'll be refilling the bottles myself. I have several 907s that I've refilled from 227g butane aerosols - it just takes a bit of time as it takes 12 cans to refill to max - for a 904 it'd be half of that.

I thought France was where they were most commonly available and you didn't have to pay silly money for a swap-out?

Nearly all French petrol stations do an exchange service on the larger grey gas bottles, the equivalent of Calor Gas but Campingaz refill is harder to find.
I've gone to France with an empty 901 cylinder and brought it back empty.
The smaller Campingaz cylinders are ideal for gas lighting while the smaller Calor Gas cylinders are suitable for cooking stoves and both suppliers have discontinued these sizes.
