Superb present, I bought mine from Satnav2U either .co.uk or .com. I can't recall how much it was but I bought the TomTom700. It has blue tooth connectivity for your mobile & is, in my opinion, brilliant. I love the 7 digit postcode search & the accuracy of the thing.
My two brothers both have TomTom 710 units & they love them. You can move it from one vehicle to another is seconds & only need a fag lighter to plug it in. Your OH can use it in his van for work, park up, get out of his van into his car & have TomTom running in seconds.
I bought a spare windscreen arrier for mine so I always have it ready in my lorry for work & my pickup or car for home use.
I think Halfords have them on offer at present, go along & take a look or google TomTom & look on te net. You won't be sorry.

If you buy a Tom Tom, make sure you keep a paper clip with it !
yes very true either that or something very thin, last time i had to reset i had to stop the c ar and searh in the end i found a bit of a staple and used that
------------- Camped as a kid,Camping now still a kid just a big 1 lol
We discovered this on the way to a meeting , when we switched on the Tom Tom , it was totally blank. We had to phone back to work to find out how to reset it, fortunately I had a paper clip with me.
Then yesterday an electrician called at work and asked us if "we knew anything about GPS" one paperclip later and he was working again .
I have had the TT One v2 for about 6 months, never needed a paperclip 'reset tool' yet though !
The maps on mine are out of date, missing a big new section of the A1 in N. Yorks and so far there is no update available. I know the area but if you are heading this way under TT guidance you would be sent the wrong way ! Normally if you deliberately or in error take a different route to the TT one, it recalculates very quickly and gives a new route, which is a good feature that I think they all have.
OH and I share one unit, no problem moving between cars and mine is a Ford with heated front - no special aerial needed for me, just works.
I also have a little plastic disc I bought on eBay that sticks permanently to the dash then the TT unit fits onto it, so you dont have to put it on the windscreen and leave the telltale mark.
Main plus for me - travelling alone on business, sometimes at night in strange places, I feel much safer about getting where I need to go.
You do need to use common sense and make sure you are not about to go the wrong way on a one way road or something, but once you get to trust your TT you wont want to leave home without it !

just one thing if the car its going into has a heated fronts screen (very common on modern fords) then you will also need a speccial aerial instrall as they can get s signal thorugh them screens
I was told this at Comet as I have a Picasso (has a thermo-wotsit windsreen) but it works fine either on the windsreen or the side window.
