We have a bbq that folds with fold down legs that ends up as a metal suitcase ( cant remember where the hell i got it from grrrrrrr) but if we take the grill off it is fantastic for a fire and doesnt harm the grass.
Next time you replace your washine machine, remove the old drum ( can be a chore depending on model! ). This can be used as a brazier and comes with it's own handy stand. This can then be filled with logs before setting off. Not exactly compact but works a treat.

Someone brought one to the Fullbrook Farm meet, he stood it on a car wheel rim to elevate it, worked a treat
Really good idea but remember SAFETY FIRST. Fire is wonderfull but can be dangerous.

Keep pets WELL AWAY
Always have a bucket of water ready
Be extra carefull if you have a few beers
ALWAYS wet it down before going to bed. Even the smallest spark can be ignited by the wind and get blown onto a tent. As a former Campsite Warden I have had to deal with that kind of thing and it aint pretty
