I dont know why people get so het up about Genny's. In my experience they are only used when wildcamping or at rallies where there is no hook up. In all the years i have been motorhoming on campsites i've hardly ever encountered them.
Ok, so used at a campsite early in the morning or late at night, they probably would be an annoyance. But i dont think anyone with a Genny would do this when hook up is cheaper than running one full time.
Generators have their uses in certain situations of camping, and as such, people should be allowed to discuss them without idiots threatning to sabotage someones equipment, just because they have a negative opinion about it.

I was going to type the same myself, We use a generator on some rallies, most recent being elvaston and there were a few others that also had them, I only used mine for approx 30 mins to recharge the battery during the day and so did most others, What I do find strange though is that everyone you meet on site is fine about you using them but come into a forum and someone kicks off...We have a honda suitcase 1kw and find its suitable for everything we need, But we dont use any power hungry appliances.

The lesson is : NEVER TRY .
If its only for lights, battery charging etc, then a cheap 750W one would suffice, just no kettles or anything of that nature, and run fridge/heating/water etc off gas.
Ive only ever once been anoyed by a genny, that was on a site where one of the statics used a genny, it ran from 5Pm till midnight.
other than that, everyone i have met has been thoughtful, used it for a couple of hours during the day to charge up, then turned off again.

Trudy, our genny is a
Kipor KGE2000tc
max. KVA 2.0
Run time 4 hours; Noise Level 61db weight 22kg.
This will run a 2kw hair dryer but we don't have anything else on at the same time. In the evening we use it for everything else you mention with no problems.
I can't stand noise either kids or adults AND EVEN WORSE IS LOUD MUSIC.
BUT as we mainly use dog show sites where there is no EHU just about everybody uses a genny. We use ours mainly for the hair dryer as you can't show a dog at it's best without a bath or at least not a long haired breed. Most people also have a tv and of course there is the laptop!
With something like over 200 caravans on the site it is surprising how quite it is. We do have rules and regulations as to when the gennys can be used.
If we are on a site with EHU then we don't use the genny.
Pat I have the Kipor 2000TI. Great bit of kit also used for the lady's hair drier! We rallly with the owners club and yes a lot of use generators with no problems. There are strict rules about when [between 1000 & 1800 usually on a rally field. If one sticks to the rules there are no problems. I never use it on a hook up site. It enable me to also recharge battery and get a bit of TV.

Hi David, Yes we find the Kipor very good. Some friends have the more expensive Honda model but I don't think it is any better. On most sites we mustn't use them before 8:30 am or after 11 pm and everybody seems sticks to this rule. As judging starts at 9:30 it is nice to know you can use it if you need to clean up a dog again before going over to the showground but few do.
For when we go to the Blackpool Championship show we have found a very nice, dog friendly CL site with EHU so we don't use the genny then. The owner of the site saves a field especially for the dog show people!
I don't have a problem with generators if they're used responsibly. However, to have one running on the next pitch at 07.15 whilst trying to sit in the sunshine and enjoy the first coffee of the day, as happened to me at Elvaston, isn't funny! To be honest, it wasn't even that loud, but it was terribly insistent like a fly constantly buzzing in your ear. It was a tremendous relief when it stopped. The occasional drift of petrol fumes across the pitch didn't help either!
By all means use your Generator, but please think about those that don't want to be able to hear it! To my mind though, if you can't do without all the electrical stuff you need a generator to run, then you should always go to sites with EHU. Utilitarian uses such as disabled buggies are much more acceptable, and let's be honest, less likely to mean the genny spoiling breakfast than other people's need to have an electric toaster.

I couldn't agree more Biker Jeff and most of the people I have ever come across who use them, use them in exactly the situation and way you describe. I have never met anyone who has used them in preference to an EHU when on a campsite and most users seem to be motorhomers who like to wildcamp. We recently used ours whilst visiting the York show and I lost count of the many passersby who stopped to comment on how suprised they were at the low nosie level when we had our Honda suticase genny in use. A lot of people who were camping at the York show were using generators but nobody around us were abusing the use of them or using them outside the stipulated hours of use which were clearly stated in the camping rules and regulations leaflet and an enjoyable weekend was had by all.
To sum it up - generators are an excellent piece of equipment when used considerately and if you enjoy the freedom that wildcamping allows you then a generator just adds to that freedom.
Sooh
------------- The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.
I don't get upset by them as now more and more cs and cl sites are banning them. And the reason The MINORITY who don't use them considerately I had a person in the lake district who brought his around the back of his van to face us cause he didn;t want the noise funnily enough his stopped working abruptly for some reason.
I do think as well that people do worry to much about running out of electric especially if its only a W/E away
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
