Hi Everyone
Just a bit of advise, the smaller the trailer the harder they are to reverse if you have to, you dont really want to be having to get out of the car and unhook it to turn it round every time you might meet traffic coming the other way on small country roads. Its a well known fact that small trailers just seem to whip round sideways at the slightest turn of the wheel. I have a 5ft x 3ftx 20" high trailer and its an absolute cow to reverse. I am renovating a bigger trailer 8ftx5ftx14" high and its a dream to reverse, no problems at all. (The above sizes dont include the towing frame about 3ft longer on the 5x3 and about 4ft on the bigger one.)
My point is if you are not used to towing a trailer then you could be in for a shock when trying to reverse.
Regards
Steve.
You need to practice more. I never had a problem reversing my trailer tent (3' X 4'6") although the caravan is a lot easier, I wouldn't call the trailer tent a cow. It is easier to tow forwards.
I have the opposite problem, I have the trailer and the car I have bought has not got a towbar on it. I priced one up and it was gonna cost me £148.00 to have a new one fitted, I have fitted 3 towbars to different cars that I have owned over the years and it has only cost me about £20.00 from the scrapyard for the towbar and electric's, and if you watch how it comes off its just a reverse fitting onto your own motor.
So if anyone can suggest a scrapyard near Burnley where I can get a towbar for a Ford Escort Hatchback I would be greatful.
I'mnot help on the near barnsley bit. I fitted my own towbar though, and simply looked for breakers yards online. Many online uber-breakers send emails to lots of yards, who phone if they have one.
Whilst it cost 15 pound delivery, I did manage to find one. Cost me sixty pounds though, which is more than you paid from the scrap.
Steve
