as someone already said TKMaxx is always a good bet. the kilmarnock branch had loads of craghoppers waterproof + breathable, not goretex though. gooutdoors (coatbridge) had some rather nice mountain equipment gortex xcr jackets for 79.99. half price for a top of the range goretex
Try out mountain life. they have shops and do mail order. I've had a coat from them for around the £60 mark that has been excellent. Waterproof breathable etc not gortex by brand but the same properties.
Dont be too suckered in by sales offers pushing to buy now though , they seem to have perpetual sales a bit like DFS!

That one is rubberised which is probably why it cost more. Mine is camoflage and made out of some sort of nylon (hence the small pack size) but still totally waterproof. It's one of the most useful pieces of kit I own.
The lightweight Regatta jackets and trousers are good as long as you buy the breathable range, I think it's called Isotex. I have had a set for years and they are totally waterproof and don't condensate inside. They cost £20 for each garment.
My Regatta jacket is Isotex & it just sheds water - mind it cost me £49.99 a couple of years ago. It's breathable and not too hot to wear in normal summer weather, although I use the fleece which zips into it if it's chilly.

i wondered how yours went into a small pack size and that accounts for it. The german army one was recommended by a mate who goes to glastonbury and i fell for the idea that you could make it into a basha tent thingy .... although when we would be likely to do that i have no idea!
My Husband likes his but the rip-stop nylon version (i found that out gooogling) is probably more practical and i see you can get them on ebay for a fiver. Plus quilted linings!
i got a heavy duty plastic poncho from wolkinsons for 2 squid yesterday for no better reason than i could :(
both our posh waterproof and breathable coats were 'half price' in a sale and both still cost well over 50quid. Nice though :)
