well on friday night me OH 2 kids sleeped in our tent with underneith us survival blanket, fleace blanket, self inflating mat, sheet, and we were well insulated and had 13.5 tog duvets with fleace blankets, and old sleeping bag on top and we were all fine even with the frozen water that I found the following morning in our water bottle.
------------- The meaning of life the universe and everything = 42 or camping?
Mybe just me, don't like being cold either, but we bought good mummy sleeping bags but I have this theory, smaller pack size = more room in car for all those other essential gadgets! We also have ehu and just leave heater on if chilly at night, worked fine for us camping in Scotland end of Sept last year, and it was V chilly at night! Also insulate below and above airbed!

Interesting read! Re at vacuum packing bags - you can get packmate bags which you just sit on and no need for a vacuum. The op can be ropey, but once you are careful they are great. We keep our clothes in them so they do not get damp in rainy weather.
Think I will take duvet even with the new sleeping bags.!
------------- I love camping, husband gets uncomfortable. Now invested in excellent beds & decent sleeping bags on the list next!! Yippeee....
We have been camping the last 2 weekends, and took both but never used the bags, we just slept under a 13.5 tog Duvet that I picked up in ASDA for a fiver.
The most important thing is to insulate from beneath. OH puts sleeping mats on top of the airbed, with an old duvet on top and fixes it with a fitted sheet. I sleep better than I do at home! We were so snug I was assumed it was a very mild night so I was surprised to see really thick frost on the car at 6.30am on Saturday!
We pack our kit in boxes, and lay them out flat in the car (Rear chairs taken out). On top we layer the various duvets sleeping bags etc and the Dog snuggle on top, looking for all the world like something out the Princess and the Pea! and I have full rear window view, but they dont take up much extra room this way, and the pooches think they are in heaven. (Normally if leave them in the car they get excited when I come back; jumping everywhere, but when they are curled up on the duvet they barely lift their heads!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
