Good on ya David, saved yourself a packet too. A wet towel over the top placed in a breeze aids cooling further too. I'm considering making a coolbox from scratch next year or through the winter, something to put others to shame, just in the design stages at the moment though. I'm thinking very efficient insulated combined with evaporated cooling on top, still considering materials at this stage though.

Thanks Gareth and David. That is such a good idea.If I can easily get the insulating materials, I might well give this a go.

We have an asda one that cost £7. Its fab! Cant believe how cold it keeps things.

Decided to have a go at loading it with frozen stuff to see how long it would last. It stayed frozen for DAYS!

Top marks for Asda.

Rach

Yes the ASDA ones are cheap, if you take them apart you can see why! I modified one of these and will now keep a 1.5ltr bottle frozen for 4 days as opposed to 24 hours empty space inside coolbox. Fully packed should last longer as less space to cool. This involved stripping coolbox apart and replacing/upgrading all of insulation in walls and lid.
It confuses family and friends when our £7.00 coolbox lasts longer than their £35.00 one! Makes me chuckle.

Gareth,
could you possibly provide some more info on your upgrade, such as what new insulation did you use? Sounds like an ideal project and a way to increase boot space by leaving my massive Coleman Xtreme at home.

The ASDA ones mihgt be cheap, but do they have the appeal of Icey-Teks?

I dream of Icey-Tek cool boxes. I want the whole family of them.

Not as nice as Icey-Teks but then again I have an old cool box in the shed just sitting there asking to be ripped apart and put back together again, we have the technology. Maybe I'll call it the Bionic Coolbox, sounds almost as cool as Icey-Tek (it doesn't but it will if I say it enough). In honour of the old TV shows how about calling it Lindsay Wagners Cold Box?

Norgie cold/hot boxes. 20 litres in size, keep stuff frozen for days (still had ice in a bottle on day 5 last week). Army surplus, approx £20. Come with 2 10 litre food containers that fit in it, and a folding ladle! Also keep stuff proper hot. Top kit.

Ross, I'll measure properly tomorrow...but can confirm they hold 20 litres, and are comfortable sitting height. Brilliant clamp down hinged lid as well, with proper seal.
Here's another pic of it being sat on by me...kind of gives idea of size I hope...
