we take a storm lantern that we have had for years - battery powered and we have an LED tent light. If we take the hookup we also take daughters winnie the pooh night light and plug that in!!
We found the wind up LED jobs a bit dull, whereas the gas latern we have is like owning your own miniture sun. And late on the evening it does have the benefit of providing a bit of heat.
Wid up lanterns are great in theory but a lot of winding for constantly fading light. UFO's great especially those with plenty of LEDs, there is a single LED "Coleman" lantern which retails at £20 in milletts which has got to be the best I have ever seen, low energy consumption and incredible light, going to get one for sea fishing at night!!
