As I said in my earlier post it just depends on which tent we use. However thinking about it I don't think that it makes any difference. We don't lock our tents and if someone is brazen enough to walk off with/load onto a car a largish item such as a stove etc then they will certainly be brazen enough to open the tent door/porch door and get things from there.

So far I have not had any warnings on campsites including ones on the coastal paths which had a reasonable volume of non campers waqlking right by.

Cheers

If we're leaving stuff out,we use one of those cork screw dog tethers, fully wound, tight into the ground, and then thread a long cable lock through what ever we want to secure(chair, tables etc)..

..and I just make sure that the cable is threaded in such a way that the tether cannot be unwound(..not without walking everything around in a circle with you!

It would certainly stop anyone just snatching things away.

(..and if they did manage it,they'd stand out dragging a load of,lashed together, camping kit across a campsite..!)

Used along with Clunty's idea of the bbq/garden furniture cover,it'd be as good as it needs to be...

OMG. What is the world coming to? We have never had a problem with stuff getting stolen (35+years). I would not go camping if I thought there was a chance of our kit going for walkies.

We always leave everything outside - I think I finally realised how honest fellow campers must be this weekend when the campsite we were on had an honesty box for people to pay for their firewood, eggs, veg etc and it wasnt a small campsite there must have been well over a thousand people staying on the farm.  They have been running for years and if they dont have a problem with money I am sure I am not going to have a problem with my camping stuff.

we have a canopy on the front of the pamandi but i just dropped the cooker and bottle inside the living area at evening time save it getting soaked being out just under the canopy. we went for a walk around the site and left all the doors rolled up and a tv on show and never felt a bit worried about leaving it like this, as its been said earlier out on site is a compleately diffrent scenario than being at home

You sound surprised?..have you just woken up from the '50s?

(..in 30 years driving,I've never had my car nicked..but that doesn't stop me from locking it..!  )

I don't think anyone is saying that the minute you leave your tent, someone'll be in to ransack it...but surely.a few simple precautions don't hurt?...

We've had a couple of items go walkies from out side of our tent some years back, nothing much admittedly, just a large brolly and our 6mtr flag pole and flag(just uprooted!).

I may've just been kids but the end result is the same...

Thieving scumbags probably go on holiday too..some may even go camping..

Thats it then i shall put my faith in man kind and set up my kitchen under my canopy. The site we are going to has good reviews which is reassuring.

We went to a site in Skegness last year and it was an O.N.A (once & never again)!  Some one stole my mob from the club house and the people next to us woke up to graffitti scratched onto their caravan. But we didnt know that UK Campsite existed then and took a chance on our choice of site. The info and help of others on this site has been invaluable to us this Year and i am definitely hooked!!!
