Having the top valve off for less than 30 minutes will clear the gas. The only thing that will be left is the smell thats added to the gas. If you know anything about gas you'd know it does not stay as a liquid unless under pressure, not like petrol at all and will dissipate as quickly as possible into the surrounding air. Simply running a hosepipe in the top for 5 minutes would reduce any risks of ignition to 0%.
Now I can do something useful with all the junk cylinders that I have lying around.
Question - Given the type of toys in the photos, I assume that you have at least one miniature demolition expert running around your house. Unless they're really your own toys, that is. Have you done anything to fix the top half of the cylinder to the bottom half when it's in use ? Or does the top half merely lie resting on the rim of the bottom half ?

Hope you've also got a wrist support under your wrists to minimise the risk or RSI while typing, and that your chair is at the correct height.....
Sum answers- yea I drilled holes in the base, inside the ring that the bottle stands on, had about 10 6mm dia to begin with, then added about 12 10mm ones to improve the flow of oxygen. In the top theres just 6 10mm holes, sounds like an uneven balance, but it seems to work. I dont intend to regulate it at all, at the moment.
Yea, we've got a four year old here full time, and his 3 yr old nephew part time- and your description was quite apt - chaos and mayhem, I call them. The top/bottom are just a snug fit, I may fit a couple of over centre catches for transport purposes.
I did try it yesterday- beef and spuds, not a full success, I need to go away from cheap brickettes I think, it all tasted a bit 'woody', and didnt have enough water in the moat, as it boiled dry and the drippings vapourised and added a burnt fat piquancy too. Mmmmmm. Still, John Browning didnt it right first time, every time -----
Hey there V8'...I just wondered how this project progressed?
..did you end up doing any further tweaks or mods'?
(..I hope you're not like me..I tend to get most of my projects up to the stage where I can see what they'll look like and how they'll work, only for them to then they end up tucked behind the shed,3 parts finished!.. )
Found a website full of ideas like this great one here. Heath Robinson lives on all over the World. Well worth a look if you're into creating. Instructables
Merry Christmas, Ray
I just made a Thermos flask stove. (hobo stove) See you tube for how it's done. It's another form of Kelly Kettle or Swedish volcano stove really. Works a treat. I had a small flask that was no good, so nothing to loose and FREE.
NO danger at all, other than the normal work shop hazards.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
