Oooo, really unfortunate and highly embarrassing for the neighbours, I should think. Just one little moment of thoughtlessness on their part. I'd be really frustrated too if it was my tent, but hopefully it will all soon be sorted out.
I should think any future parcels would be extra safe with them. No way are they going to risk anything going wrong again after this incident.
Ecosse I don't think you were out of order, I read your post at frustrated that the delivery company had left it with neighbours, and your tent had become ruined. I do still feel for your neighbours, as the delivery drivers make you feel guilty if you refuse, I know from my own experience they can be quite funny if you refuse and look at you as if you are being really unfair.
From my point of view I will always take a parcel if its arrange by the neighbour, but will refuse if its not arrange and no immediately next door, as work from home I was getting frequent requests from delivery drivers even 2/3 doors away, I think they have learned that I won’t do it, as they have stooped interrupting me as often!
Have you let the delivery company know what happened? They may still be responsible as they didn’t deliver it to you and if you had not asked them to leave it with your neighbour? Personally I would peruse the delivery company so they learn to take responsibility and not ask neighbours etc to do their job for them.
Hi all as an ex multi drop driver for many years than i care to remember going down the route of blaming the driver/delivery company and trying to get compensation will get you no where. The driver did not lean the tent on the storage heater so thats not his fault. Most drivers are self employed owner drivers and only get paid once the parcel has been signed for so leaving a card means he/she wont get paid for that attempted delivery and will have to go back at his/hers own cost.thats why we try to knock on a neighbours door.
Leaving a parcel even if you have put a sign on the door is a big no no with most companies we must get a signature
Im sorry for what has happened and im sure things will sort themselves out

At least it was actually left with somebody and not just dumped in your garden! Last winter I ordered an expensive pair of trainers for my son, from an ebay seller. The seller promised same day dispatch and emailed me to say they had been sent out - they didn't arrive as expected but I gave them an extra few days with it being the very busy run up to Christmas. I was just about to email the seller when my next door neighbour came with a very wet parcel - seems that the Citylink courier driver, finding no-one at home either here or next door, had just dumped the parcel in her garden and not even left a card to say where it was. It then became covered in snow, and she only found it when she went to move some rubbish which had blown over the fence. Fortunately it was well wrapped and only the outside packaging was damaged, but I contacted Citylink straight away and complained, and also contacted the ebay seller to let her know how her dispatches were being treated.
I can understand your frustration and annoyance, especially if the courier firm knows to deliver to your workplace if you're not in, but your neighbours were only being helpful by taking your parcel in. They probably just stood it up against the radiator unthinkingly, not realising that it would get damaged, and they must now feel awful about what happened to it. At least they've offered to pay for a replacement - you don't say how much the tent cost but I bet it wasn't cheap. I think the best you can do - if you've not already done so by now - is contact the delivery company and tell them that any future parcels are to be delivered specifically to your workplace, or you collect them yourself from the depot if that's possible.
