The important thing with a large roofbox is to ensure you don't exceed the weight limits of either the roofbox, bars or car. Don't forget to add the weight of the roofbox when you are checking the total weight on the roof of the car.
Good luck with the dissertation.

Hi Liz. Go to somewhere that sells both trailers and roffboxes and look at them in the 'flesh' that will give you a better idea of what you need. Where abouts are you. I have a trailer and a roofbox you could borrow. I'm in Sandwell West Midlands
------------- Enjoy life whilst you can, it doesn't last for ever!!!!!!
Glynnis - Im in Leicester so not too far away but dont have any roof bars either so would be struggling to get it back but thank you soo much thats a really kind offer
Richard - Thanks for the good luck going to need it. Especially with a 5 yr old who keeps wanting to see what Im doing and has already pressed delete twice
last year we stopped using trailer for going to france as they charge more on the tunnel and tolls for using a trailer. We managed to get all in a picasso grand, roofbox and rear thule box.
Hi don't know if you still need trailer or roofbox hire, but I recently used a company in Leicester to hire a trailer. www.leisuretrailerhire.co.uk, they were good and very reasonable, they even delivered it and picked it back up!

Second that! We have recently changed cars and are looking at new roof bars. Even though the roof box is rated to take 75kg, depending on the roof bars we go for we will be limited to a load of between 50kg and 65kg including the weight of the roof box which is 17kg on its own. So realistically we are only looking at a load of 33 to 48kg!
