I think people can go a bit OTT with footprints. I bought a tent specific footprint once and it was actually too big so I had to cut it down. I am still using it now for my present tent, cut down even more.

It hasn't frayed so no need to stick it or hem it. I punctured holes along the edges where I needed the pegs to go using a sharp rock peg and the holes have not worn or torn.

Although it was a tent specific footprint it is nothing more than a fairly standard waterproof tarpaulin which can be bought fairly cheaply from most builders merchants.

Don't buy thin rubbish but at the same time don't spend a fortune. £15 to £20 should buy you a strong waterproof tarpaulin big enough for the average family tent. A smaller one may be even cheaper.

Cut it to the size you want, stick some holes in it where you want and away you go. I have had mine a few years now but should yours, by some stroke of bad luck start to fray or tear, well...buy another (a little stronger one next time)
