Well the kit used is “Oregon Scientific” we have two set ups one for measuring outside temps, and the other for monitoring the status of the a fridge, both also give further readings for inside the tent and under the sun-canopy.
They seem to be very accurate, you have to remember that French Météo-France will receive data from various locations, so will give a mean average overall.
So my findings were only accurate for my pitch, the pitch behind me etc could have had different readings altogether.
Not very scientific I know, but I can only report as I find.
Well who cares spiritburner, I was just making the point that a 3 Way, would struggle in those sort of temps, whereas a compressor fridge will work fine.
My actual experience differs although I accept our compressor fridge will be even better
And as the hottest recorded temperature on the planet is only around 57c I don't think your readings are a sound basis for advice discounting 3 ways as non starters for South of France.
I don't think anyone would disagree with the fact that a compressor fridge will perform better than a 3 way Fridge in extreme temperatures, it is what it is.
Don’t forget ST1100, even southern U.K. reached 38 C, back in July, why 55 C a further 1000 miles South into South East France, should not be believed I find odd.

Maybe because the highest temperature record is 56.7c in Furnace Creek in Death Valley in the USA ... are you honestly trying to say France got very close to that temp??
The highest record temp in Europe is 48c in Greece.
I have the 3 way fridge that takes the small gas canisters, last year in France under our awning where the fridge was, I recorded 41 degrees from a thermometer sitting on top of the lid of the fridge, temperature recorded from a probe inside the fridge was 2.5 degrees.(and 'cos im sad I have photo evidence of this. ) I am more than happy with a 3 way fridge
