ideally - ,,,,a big envolope in which to envolop the air bed in works wonders for heat retention.
When we go camping we put down some foam backed fine bubble wrap which I get from work when new windscreens are delivered and sometimes car panels. I save it up all year round, there`s 4 of us at work that save it. I put it down on the ground under the bedroom groundsheet,then on top of the groundsheet we use the foam rollup mats, air beds, then a blanket to stop condensation, then the bags never been cold yet.
In windless conditions when the body is not active, however, it can be significant, especially at night. Radiative heat loss can be minimized by one of two methods. The first is by wearing a reflective barrier (such as aluminized nylon or mylar) near the skin capable of reflecting infrared radiation back to the body. The second is by wearing thick clothing (e.g., down or high-loft synthetic fill garments). The latter strategy is effective because infrared radiation cannot travel through thick insulation, and thus, most of the infrared radiation lost by the body can remain entrapped in the clothing system rather than exiting out to the environment.
The second bit in bold makes the point that radiated (IR) heat does not travel thru thick insulation, thus there is none to reflect by the time it travel thru your clothes, sleeping bag and sleeping mat.
We start with foam mat under the 1st air bed. Then a fleece blanket. Then the 2nd airbed..
I took two airbeds with us last time out with the idea of using one on top of the other, but hubby wouldn't even let me try it cos he said the top one will slip off during the night.
I still think it's great idea, so PLEASE tell me (so I can show this post to hubby ) have you ever had trouble with the airbeds parting company during the night? Does the fleece blanket help to stop them sliding around?
