I use a Tom Tom one which is excellent, unless you want all the functions of the TT go 700 then I would stick to the TT one and save yourself £100. They all use the same mapping software anyway.
I am also looking for an in car GPS. If you do a google search (just put in sat nav) it will lead you to hundreds of sites and then you will be REALLY confused. Personally I like the Garmin Nuvi 350 it is ever so slim compared to to the Tom Toms. You can take it into strange towns with you (walking) and it will guide you back to your car. I got lost in Valencia the other week, it would have certainly come in handy. The 350 also tells you the name of the street to turn onto. It's a nightmare trying to sort out whats best for each individual. Some units include maps of Europe, if not it, will cost you 100 quid or more to obtain them. Happy searching. Ed.
I use the Navman 520 exellent and smaller than tom tom, slips into pocket.I have 150 drivers who use numerous sat-navs all say they are very simular. Warning dont leave sat-nav or MOUNT in car or you will come back to FREE AIR CONDITIONING.For European mapping i would test the navman 550 can be picked up on ebay for £330.
Take a good look at tom tom website only some mobiles work with this tom tom 700.it is very good sat nav you can get traffic update at a cost .go for halfords
I've been toying with the idea of buying a tomtom go 700 best price toadte is £324.99 Currys online. But have just noticed Carol's comment ending up in a goat track!
Also my neighbour has just tested his & confirms the tomtom does have a tendancy to send you down narrow country lanes - not something us caravners want. In fact there are rumours that some country folk are complaining of apparent higher vehiculer useage of some unsuitable country lanes since the advent of sat navs.
Do i stall on spending my £324.99?
PS I haven't shown my wife this thread, as up til now she was convinced we needed one.
The bad thing about the speed camera updates is that they now make a charge for them.
www.pocketgps.co.uk always said that they would never charge because the input came from the users - seem that they have had a change of heart. They are still cheaper than TomTom though.
Some-one has rightly pointed out that they have a tendency to send people down totally unsuitable roads. I have asked TomTom about this in the past but have never received a satisfactory answer
