hi ell

kettles do boil water  quicker than an open pan

and yes trangias are better than cheapo you get what you pay for

but the cheap ones can be just as good.

Were the holes in your burner blocked with carbon ? or small crysals  of meths

from the last time you used it  as your stove had been stood it could just have been a case of dirt in the holes get a needle and gentle clean them out

i had a cheapo one and it did have a wind sheild you could alter like someone said earlier it might have been too windy

oh just had a thought the meths might have been a poor grade as well

if i remember correctly  its not the meths that burns but the vapours hence why you have an almost invisble flame

hope you can sort it as they can be realy usefull stoves

Trangias are a fab huggable reliable piece of equipment, and when it comes down to it if you can't boil your kettle,

drink the meths...

I've had a genuine Trangia for years and its brilliant, I recently got one of the cheap ones from LIDL ( as a 2nd stove) and it was rubbish, To try it out I attempted to cook some bacon, all I managed was to warm it up, after several minutes of it cooking I got my original Trangia out and started cooking some more.

The bacon was cooked completly on the original well before the other even though it had several minutes head start, in fact in the end I had to finish it off on the original Trangia.

It seems the cheap one somehow didn't get hot enough, stick to the original.
