We have an Electrolux Dometic RC1600. http://www.obrienscamping.co.uk/portable/RC1600.htm We have used it on gas for camp[ing and at home on mains electric for a wine/beer fridge at Christmas etc. Very pleased with it both ways! MT

I do have two 110Ah batteries and a 1kw invertor.......I got them to (amongst other things) power the microwave.
So no problems there. Thanks for the info.......
The problem with three way fridges......(for the benefit of anyone else here) is that they cannot cope with very high temperatures over a long period.......to say nothing of the 'leveling' messing about problems.
Compessor fridges are the way to go for us dedicated wild and away for months campers in the South of Europe.......
But have you seen the price of 12V compressor fridges ?........it's enough to turn a chap to drink...........(Chilled of course)

hello can anyone please give me a bit of advrise,,ive bought a second hand rm212f 3way fridge ,i put a plug on it and then tryed it at home and didnt work ,now ive rung the bloke who sold me the fridge and he says that it wont work straight from the mains??????and that i will need a inverter/converter ,,is this corect or did i get sold a dud,,i havent tryed it on 12v or gas yet ,,thanks
This is the one i'm interested in CoolFreeze model CF-25..
Looks like a good price too..
Will run on a 110Ah battery for about a week, and will also run on solar power. (not sure what panel though, or if its used just as a power top up)
Technical Specification:
25L Compressor Coolbox
The CF 25 offers the advantage of increased capacity over the CF 18 whilst still maintaining compact dimensions.
The weight of the unit compares favourably with the 18 and makes this new model an attractive alternative for customers who require more internal space but with compact dimensions and weight.
Capacity: 23L
Consumption at 12v: 0.45Ah/h (-20°C) 0.52Ah/h (-32°C)
Weight (unladen): 12kg. Volts: 12/24v DC Power Input: 35watts
Dimensions: 425mm(H) x 550mm(W) x 260mm (D)

...... Strangely our Combicool has never required us to level it and we've camped in some odd places.
I've never thought about levelling our Dometic absorption 3 way fridge - so I guess it might have been at some funny angles from time to itme - but its never been a problem. Am I right in thinking that althouh absorption fridges are silent compressor fridges make a noise like a domestic fridge? MT

I'm not sure what fridge you've got........but generally 'three way' fridges run from any of three power sources......
ie: 240v mains
12v battery
or gas
That is why they are called '3 way'.......if it doesn't work on mains power it is faulty. They do not need an invertor to work.
However.........you say you put a plug on it......did you fit a plug to the correct cable (240v) and not the 12v leads ?

I always level my combicool 3 way (have done for over 5 years), and yes it does work much better. (I use a simple bubble level from B&Q etc) My combicool absorption fridge is silent in the running on any of the power options gaz/12v/230v. I have spoken to one of the guys at Waeco and asked him quite a few questions on the compressor fridges as i want one. One of my questions was is it noisy when running, he told me they run silent, the compressor is very small compaired to a domestic fridge/freezer.. Good news yes? I was also told when it is at the set temperature and its stabilized the current draw is only 0.9 Ah. That last web site i put on this thread is also a very cheap place to buy one..
I will still keep my combicool 3 way, but the compressor one will freeze no matter what the outside ambient temperature is (even 30+ C ) Ice cold beers and ice cubes for the vodka, the milk and cooked meats stay fresh too.. Sorted!
Good luck campers

Just to add..
Waeco compressor cool / freeze boxes can be powered by 12, 24 volt DC, 110 and 230 volt AC mains. Leads are included for 12 / 24 volt DC and 230-240 volt AC mains.
Auto Voltage Recognition Temperature Range -18°C to +10°C Minimal Energy Consumption Uses Latest Compressor Technology Extremely Quiet Operation Use As Portable Freezer or Fridge.....
This unit has an average power consumption of 0.44 Amps/Hour this is at an ambient temperature of 20 degrees c reaching an internal fridge temperature of 5 degrees c.
This would allow you to run the fridge on your 110 A/hr battery for 6.9 days keeping 1/3 of your battery capacity left for safety and to avoid damaging the battery.
You can use a solar panel this connects direct to your battery and replaces any power that is drawn whilst running the fridge.
Cheers Delta....
