I take a piece of wood to go under my Weber Go Anywhere BBQ so that I do not burn the grass underneath.
I also pour water on the grass first to give it a soak to further minimise the risk of burning.

I would be a bit dubious about using those kitchen type stands personally, they look far too likely to topple over, especially with the BBQ in the original post. The last thing you need is that lot going over when full of hot coals.
I dare say it wouldn't be difficult to secure it somehow, I just get a bit nervous thinking about some of those stands with a lit BBQ on them.

If you're talking about the stands that I've shown, you need to try one to have a real view. I'm about as risk averse as they come and I'm happy with ours.
If not putting the BBQ on the ground, I would put it on an aluminium roll up table, again, with a piece of wood underneath to minimise the risk of melting the plastic bits and pieces in between.

No doubt you are (risk averse that is), & the last thing I would suggest is that anyone on here is in any way foolhardy, it was simply a concern I had.
I've always been struck by how careful people on this site are, you've only got to look at any threads relating to gas appliances in tents etc.
It all boils down to common sense I suppose, & there's no shortage of that on here.
I use this stand from B&Q and it is marvellous, no more bending down while cooking and the disposable BBQs just slot right in the top so really secure too. All that for £4.98, cant go wrong
