The thing that slightly perturbs me about vaccuum packing everything is not being able to fit it all in for the return trip. Unless you take the hoover away with you, of course.
We always have a lot more trouble fitting stuff in on the way home, not only does it never fit as neatly but we've always bought more things, too.

I get the feeling from previous threads that you can use an airbed pump on suck mode with the vaccuum bags too (although we don't use them).

We keep a small air bed pump in the car so we can vacuum pack for coming home.
