It's not always that easy! It might be lashing down with rain, or you might have some sort of physical problem that means you need to go several times a night (yes, I used to camp while pregnant) or you might have difficulties walking over rough ground in the dark with just the light of a torch (that's me now) or you might be the only adult with two small kids in the tent you don't want to leave unattended or it's just easier with a child to have an emergency facility in situ. Lots of reasons, really, that make carrying a couple of inches of pee in a bucket to the campsite loo in the morning a far, far easier option.

It's easy, it's cheap and it doesn't smell as long as you empty the bucket first thing. I absolutely hate chemical toilets in a tent, you can always smell that faint undernote of chemicals and the thought of a container of waste stewing inside a hot tent for days makes me feel slightly ill tbh.
I'm glad you said this, I was beginning to think it was just me.
But then I'm possibly the least squeamish person in the whole wide world, and absolutely nothing about wee or poo could scare me in the slightest. True, I'd rather deal with my own than other people's, but at the end of the day, give me a hundred buckets and porta pottis rather than one big scary spider!

Well, I can only speak for myself, but after 4 separate courses of lithotripsy, and one of those summat-or-other-oscopy laser doodahs, all for kidney stones, I have only recently (last 12 months) been able to go all night without having to go, so to speak. However, the minute I wake up, or more to the point, the minute I stand up, I am fit to burst!!
At home, we only have a downstairs bathroom, and even that is only just in range (providing I don't attempt to don any clothing en route, that is!)
If I needed to visit the site loo first thing in the morning, I assure you, there would no doubt be a puddle on the tent carpet...... just inside the door zip, I suspect!!
Sometimes, no matter how strong the will, the physicalities take precedence!
And with the renal colic hovering on the surface, "holding it" just isn't an option.
Apologies for being so personal, but hey, I'm not shy!
I'm sure many of us have good reason to come up with some sort of in-tent option, be it medical, being scared of the dark, or plenty in between.

Val, I'm totally with you. I'm an older gentleman. We don't do all night. We have a Kampa Khazi. My comment was in response to someone saying why don't we just go to the site loo.

Theres nothing worse than lying in bed wanting a wee and knowing you aint getting back to sleep until you have one. Wouldn't it be nice if someone invented some sort of plug hole in your bed, where you could just roll over plug percy in it have a wee it goes into some sort of receptacle. press a button it give percy a quick wash and dry. All without getting out of bed. Not much use for the ladies, but they seem to be able to last longer than blokes. Why is that anyway.
I believe there's a hotel in downtown Bangkok that have just the thing.... including the wash and dry facility.
Might be worth googling it, I suppose.
