We have filled them in the past with no problem. You shouldn't fill until empty. We decided this year to buy a new one. We had gone out for the day and came back to people reporting the smell of gas around our van. Amu husband checked. It was connected correctly and the full container was completely empty. We had to buy a new one. So much the calor safety checks
