I have seen a rather nice sleeping bag but instead of seasons it says it has a tog rating 7, can anybody tell me if this is going to 2/3 season or what???!!!! I need to be warm this weekend!!
Togs are measured in units of thermal resistance. For example, if a duvet had a tog rating of 4.5 then it would be more appropriate to be used in the summer months. At the other end of the scale, duvets with a tog rating of 13.5 or higher would be used in the colder months of the year.
4.5 tog 6 tog 7.5 tog 9 tog 10.5 tog 12 tog 13.5 tog 15 tog
All i can say is it would probably be warm enough for me but then we are all different, my wife would be cold in a 15 tog in August, she takes an extra blanket, then again it depends on where your going, what is suitable for the south coast may not be as good in the Cairngorms
most autumn/ winter quilst are 13 to 15 tog, i would think 7 would be a summer only rating. I would not think it would keep me warm in a tent in spring or autumn.
last july we were camping in a field in dorset. It was incredibly hot and sunny all day but at night the temperature dropped drastically. I was able to lend out my fleece dressing gown and my fleece jumpers to friends because i was snug under my 13.5 tog duvet.
is it to do with cloudless skies not keeping the heat in, or does that just apply to deserts ???
Thanks for the replies, got a new bag last night. OH found it and it has an 11 tog rating and can be comfortable up to -20. So heres hoping I am warm enough this weekend!
