Have an electric 2 ring burner, thought it would be good to take camping. Just wondering if anybody has used these? Are they any good, and if there are any problems, what are they? Thought they would be useful especially on days when the wind is blowing your gas out!
16 amp is standard on the CC sites we use, but we have been on a site in north Scotland where it was only 6 amps (that would give you about 1400 watts). And in Italy we found one with only 2 amps!!
Compared to the gas hob in the caravan the electric is slower, but I just remember that I am saving gas and keeping the cooking smells out of the van!
Ours is a Russel Hobbs one from Argos and is pretty good, also useful in the kitchen at home at Xmas.
we have a 2 ring and can use both rings on 16 amp hookups.
If the hookup is 10 amp, I can use both rings but ensure only one is switched on at a time (the other ring retains its heat and continues cooking for a considerable time after you switch it off)
If the hookup is less, I wouldn't bother with the electric cooker.
The electric takes longer to bring things to the boil but cooks the same after that.
As I see it, if I am paying for electric hookup I might as well use it rather than pay extra for gas as well.
