Can anyone help me, looking at buying an iggy, but not sure which one to get, and how long does it keeps stuff cool for, it will be mostly for weekends away and for 2 people, any suggestions
Hi, We have the Igloo Kool Mate 40 its excellent, keeps everything ice cold and is really quiet. We are a family of five and its easily big enough for us. We bought it about 2 months ago for £89.99 which also included the mains adapter.
We had the 50 which was way too big for 2 people which is why we sold it. They cool down to about 25 degrees below the outside temp so are much more efficiant than other coolers and we were always very pleased with the performance of ours. It just took up too much room in the car and tent.
I think the ones mentioned are electric coolers not sure if it is one of these or a basic cool box type you are after? If it is then try and get one of the max cold range they are sold as keeping ice for five days and are high of my list of must have items
If your budget won’t stretch to a max cold then the next best box in the range is ice cube ultra which has Ultratherm Insulation then the next step down is t the family range which is a cheaper box and still has the Ultratherm Insulation
I have a family cooler and you have to refreeze your ice packs every 24hrs to get the best out of it
We have a max cold one and tried it out over the BH weekend. As an experiment we put a tub of ice cream in bottom and other frozen items. By the evening the ice cream was still solid, but not totally frozen but we could eat happily. The other frozen items were veggie sausages and burgers, these were still frozen on day 2/3 and had to be taken out to defrost. Everything kept very cold, when we came home on the Monday the bottle of water we had frozen was still half ice, but the ice blocks were liquid. I think it is better to have a bottle of frozen water in there. Everything milk, butter etc were just like out of the fridge. Also we put non cold beers in there and with hours they were cold. We were very happy and look forward to using it when we go away for a week.
We have a 34 litre one that takes ice packs and if we freeze a litre bottle of water or squash and place in there it still has ice in it three days later.

Cools to 22 degrees below ambient according to the spec on the Costco one.
Bought this one myself, not from here, which I found after I'd bought it from ebay(brand new) at £23. Apparently upto 3 days of cooling!! I thoroughly looked into this, compared to the Colemans as well as Igloo's Max colds. Found for the money too, this would be great for camping. The handle is very handy too and there are 4 indents to put cups on.
