someone said that 300gsm would be ok, but the tog rating seems low. Some 300gsm have higher tog rating. Would the above bag be suitable, I was thinking of getting 2 for my 3 and 5 year old daughters? Or would something better rate be required. I also like this bag because it is a poly/ cotton shell and not a "just" polyester shell. We all find the rustling the all polyester ones make tooooo much and prefer the mix or just cotton. I have found that it is difficult to find warmer bags that have the non polyester shell??
The polyester shells in more expensive sleeping bags work like a "dry-weave top sheet"...ie, moisture/sweat passes through but does not seep back in again. Cotton or cotton/poly bags are really only just for caravans or sleepovers, where the temperature difference outside the bag isn`t so extreme. if you use a cotton sleeping bag on top of an airbed, for example, the underside will end up sodden.
I don`t think economising on sleeping bags is a good idea, especially as decent quality ones don`t cost that much more. Sleeping bags are your most important bits of kit after the tent. The best one around IMHO is the Vango Nitestar Midi. that`s what all my kids used, till they grew into adult sized bags. (And even then, I bought them adult Nitestars.)
