Hi everyone,
Been lurking on this fantastic site for a while but now I need help!
We're off (me the wife and our 4 yr old) this weekend in our brand spankers Starcamper 4 to a site that asks we use breathable groundsheets.
Question is do I need one? Will an eco-mat achieve anything with a SIG on top of it?
My feeling is to get a B&Q tarpaulin for underneath & we might even stretch to some eco-mat for the living area.
I don't mind the spends but £50 of eco-mat I don't need is half a COBB.
What do you think?
Thanks

Can't advise but hope you have a good time when you go away. I am sure someone who knows more about it than me will reply soon.

When sites stipulate breathable groundsheets, they generally mean awnings only. They realise they can't insist on breathables under SIGs in bedroom pods.
Bigcrags, believe me breathables do leave the grass in a better state than non-breathables. After two weeks with a non-breathable groundsheet, the ground is pretty bad whereas the same amount of time with a breathable groundsheet leaves the grass in a recoverable state.

Welcome to the site.
We used g/shhets under the sig, and if nothing else, it will keep the underneath of the tent cleaner. Hope this helps and have a great time.
------------- Happy days

I would advise a PVC under-sheet (stone-sheet, forrprint, whatever you want to call it) as they are totally waterproof, usually available in big sheets from your local camp shop (grey or green) and then cut to suit your footprint. The PolyTarp type stuff (usually blue from various places, looks like woven plastic) isn`t totally waterproof, if you have anything sitting on it or weight on it, the water comes through and makes a damp patch.------------- Life is one big holiday, only broken up by as little work as possible
