I'd definitely recommend a TomTom One V2 Europe, www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk are doing the for £180 (with the Google Checkout £10 discount) and it includes a case, which I think is essential.
TomToms seem the most user friendly and have a quick time to fix. The add-on bits (traffic, speed-cameras etc) are expensive though. PocketGPSWorld has a fantastic cheap speed camera database

£113 in Halfords on line website (free delivery) and the F20 is easy to use
The thing that really interests me is how the manufacturers still manage to keep the prices so high. I know that they keep bringing out new models that have additional features that very few people ever use. The devices are relatively simple to do for volume manufacture. The satellites are in place. The mapping software seems to be common to a lot of the devices. So where's the cost coming in?
We Have the Navman F20 UK & Ireland really easy to use .Look at Curries on line and pick up at your local shop. The only downer is that the SD cards for europe and France are more than the Navman F20 Europe so go for the F20 Europe
Just got a Fujitsu Loox N100 - great little gadget, so small but as easy to use as TomTom has been on my mobile. Used it in anger today and it was great. We paid 130, but it came with loads of accessories and all the maps of Europe.
How many of your Sat Navs can be programmed to visit various places on the route from A to B?
What I mean is, you know you are setting off from home, and ending up in, for ie, Portsmouth. It will plot you fastest / shortest / whatever route. BUT if you want to go via Derby, Shrewsbury, Stratford, Bath, Oxford, and maybe a couple of other places on the way, can this all be programmed into the one route? (it`s called the "travelling salesman" for obvious reasons) Which Sat Navs can do this?
I`ve got a Garmin Nuvi 660T (cost about £350) and it CANNOT do it ! Plots routes great from A to B, and you can have ONE via point in the route and that is it. Neither can you upload routes planned on your computer with Garmin mapping software. My older Garmin GPS III+ is capable of both these tasks, and I wish I`d known about the new one not being able to before buying it! Should have done my homework better!
------------- Life is one big holiday, only broken up by as little work as possible

The new device from Memory Map can do this http://www.memory-map.co.uk/ Also, you can do this if you run a small-form PC system and that should be able to handle anything that you throw at it
I have a Tom Tom one, and as mentioned earlier they are very easy to use etc, BUT, and it is a huge BUT, when i bought it, and used it approx 2 weeks later to get me to a friends workplace in Middlesbrough from Worksop (near Sheffield) I had to navigate the new stretch of A1(M) just south of Leeds.
The Sat Nav all of a sudden decided that i was driving through fields that were running away from the A1 (obviously the old route of the A1) and kept giving me instructions to turn left or right to get back onto roads that were running over the A1 across bridges!!
After my trip i phoned Tom Tom customer services and asked why a brand new out of the box machine hadnt got an updated map on it (the stretch of A1 had been built approx 2 or 3 years prior by the way).
I was told in no uncertain terms, that they were not interested in my problem, and that i would have to buy an updated map at a cost of 60 (ish) euros.
I asked whether this section of road had been updated , and was told that he didnt know, because they buy maps from a 3rd party source!!!
Needless to say, i wont be recommending Tom Toms to my friends in a hurry.

Sorry for the rant........
All the GPS manufacturers buy in their mapping software so TT are no worse than any of the others. I do agree that the updating on these things is a joke
I've got a Tom Tom 1 Europe and love it. It's got me around Norway, Denmark, Germany, Holland, France and the UK without getting lost once. It's also extended the life of my husband who can't look at a map without finding a short-cut that takes twice as long as what he calls 'the long way round'!
