About 1KW. On the other hand, you won't need one if you stay at home, which is where all your neighbours will wish you had stayed I mean this in jest, so please do not take offence, but there is a serious message there.

portable 'gennys' are banned on most sites I am aware of. If you must take it, use a site hook-up!! unless u have one of those posh RV's with a 'silent' built -in genny!

Check the label on the microwave for power consumption, not output, it can be as high as 2.5 times the output depending on age & efficency.  My 950w genny will NOT power my 650w microwave in any meaningful way.

Hi, there is quite a large drain as the appliance kicks in so you need to make sure the generator max output will start it up, Not just the constant supply

Thankyou for your replies...i should point out that i will be using the generator while fishing on lakes of over 100 acres and wont be near other people..Some lakes are 1000 acres plus so no problem with the noise..

Good God. The Man only asked what size generator does he need and then he gets loads of replies from the anti-geni brigade. Is it too difficult to just answer the question. If you are are not then obviously the message was not intended for you so why bother posting.I am not even going to talk about this issue any more so pleasee dont bother posting more ant geni stuff on this post. PHEW GLAD THATS OFF MY CHEST

It really gets my goat up when people stick their noses in .

Any way Colin It all depends on what size microwave you have , I would agree with the other people that about 1kw should do. I have a 500w m/w and it works fine. WHEN I AM IN A FIELD ALL ON OUR OWN WITH NO ONE TO DISTURB AND BY GOING INTO THE NEXT VILLAGE 10 MILES AWAY AND CHECKING THAT IT WILL NOT DISTURB ANYONE. (Only joking of course) I would only use it as an emergency and when we are away on a private rally and during the day.

at least a 1Kw, as the start surge of a micro can be quite high.
If your intending on using it with the micro, a look at the back will gve the actual rating of the micro (650 is the microwave output, not the appliance consumption) and add about 10-15% for its start surge.

a word of warning, the highter power the microwave, the higher the surge, so stick with as low as possible, or spend a bit more on a RV/caravan microwave, as these usually have a lowor start surge, or a soft start to avoid tripping EHUs etc.

Answer is simple steve dont post on an open forum if you don't want opinions, at least now he knows that most proper campers don't apreciate the noise of generaters which is why most campsites ban them and most rally and temp holiday sites set a strict time slot for their use
