the ''big boy''  folding chair is great when you are in it (20stone plus) but if you lean on the arms to get out, the plastic X joint at the front is vulnerable. Ours broke and we took it back and changed it.. taking care with the new one to try to sit up without leaning on the arms. Not easy if you are a bit old and creaky!  :(

Square 'Director' chairs are much more stable and easier for creaky people to raise themselves up from.

Nice red ones in tescos cheap at the moment.

our B&Q ones lasted for years.. fabric finally rotted away after being left out over several winters!

I'm XXXL and the Tesco £9.95 chairs (pictured above) are more comfy than anything else we have.  I had a back injury and the arms bore my weight very well getting in and out.  Bit draughty round the bum region on a chilly night though.  I recommend draping something that will stretch from seat up over the chair back.

This is my next purchase,Sunncamp, it has a higher back & slopes slightly so not bolt upright with the back digging in like out Gelert directors chairs, aluminium arms as well for getting up & no separate feet to dig into the SIG, Hi Gear do one almost identical, £29 from Camperlands unless anyone knows better.

Have a look on the fishing sites, you will find the chairs on there are better made and stronger..

Most fishing chairs are lower though. Just been in the camping shop near Old Trafford & they have a Gelert almost identical to the picture above for £27. You can sink right down in them.

I'm a new camper and just starting to get our gear together. As a rather large chap I have thios same problem. when ever i sit on a normal fold up chair it creaks and i feel like its going to collapse on my. I tried the steel director style chairs but the bars at the front cut into my legs after 30mins or so. So....

I been trying differnt chairs in Outdoor world and go outdoors.

I have found the two chairs below, happly take my 26 stone weight without a single creak, and are more comfurtabe than the director style chairs.

Try this one chair   as it has the solid arms for getting up. The type you are looking at tend to split on the front of the seat & the top at the back as all the weight is on stitching, trust me I know.
