To be fair, most of us don't understand 'energy density' and the fact that heating & cooling are big users of power.

We know we put petrol into our cars, not charge up the batteries and we occasionally think the reason for that is a conspiracy involving the oil companies and not that the simple physics (and chemistry) is that a litre of petrol has about the same energy 'storage' as 6 leisure batteries!

And it's not helped by people saying that if we'd use energy saving light bulbs we'll 'save the planet'.
