hi friends

Next weekend we are heading to the north west of Scotland near Lochinver for our summer hols. Went last summer and had the great weather. May not be so good this time so i am considering buying a Sky zone 2 dish or similiar (for the kids sakes of course) and taking our sky box with us.

My question is which satellite dish do i need? Will a zone 2 dish suffice up north. If so, what other equipment do i need?

 Any advice greatfully received

Thanks for the reply Bob

when you say the smaller dish, do you mean the 40cm one in the Maplins package?

Use a Sky zone 2 dish in Scotland ourselves, have seen zone 1 dish used at Fort William, and 1 guy claimed he had used a zone 1 dish in Troon.

Have used zone 1 in most parts of Scotland but I would use a minimum of zone 2 60cms and if you have the room a 80cms for very northern parts would be better..

Yep, you'll survive with a zone 2 (60cm) dish. shop around, you'll get a new one with LNB for under £20.

Hi

Forget a satellite finder. Buy a cheap compass.

Point the dish due East and turn very slowly towards South. Works every time for me and you don't need to keep switching off and disconnecting.

As Oxter pointed out http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/ is good for info!

Just to finish this thread. I bought a 43 cm dish from Maplins, two lengths of tv wire and 4 connectors together with a cheap satellite finder. total cost £60. Set it up in the awning up in Sutherland and with some fiddling got a perfect picture. on the bad days when the wind was howling and the rain rattling the caravan windows, we could watch all our favourites- fantastic. Won't go without it now. Yes i know this is not the true caravanning ethos but there are only so many games of dominoes my kids can take.

"i know this is not the true caravanning ethos"

Caravanning is what you make it. Dont ever let anyone tell you that you have to go back to a field with just a tap and read books.
