Hi, we're about to buy a first small trailer to make our family camping a bit more comfortable. Can anyone share the benefit of their experience and advise me on the things to look out for? Like are there different types of wheels, axles, frames etc. Also any reliable brands you can recommend.
Hi Stan Brown and welcome to UKCS a most addictive website. Firstly what ever trailer you opt for get one bigger, as they soon get very full. We have a Daxara 158 now fitted with side extenders and an ABS lid. Everyone will say the same. Daxara are the same make as Erde and spares are easily available. Try and get a trailer with tyres bigger than 8", 10" or 13" good, these have a better rating as the 8" tyres are only rated to 62mph. For stability a A frame drawbar provides better stability whilst towing.
We have just got a Daxara 147 from Indespension, complete with abs lid, jockey wheel, number plate and spare..All in for 550 beer tokens, much cheaper than our local trailer supplier which who where offering the same deal for just over 800,indespension even threw in a free tow bracket lock...
We have built (my husband that is)our first trailer this week and are taking it for it's first outing at the weekend! We have the Caddy 430 (from Towsure) with the side kit extension to make it deeper. It looks huge to me and will make our journey so much more comfortable.
Gone are the days when I've had ice box between my knees and am surrounded by pillows, sleeping bags, loo rolls, and loads more parafanalia (sp?)!
Good luck with your search ,I don't know what I would do without this site.x
